British Museum’s Iran exhibition scheduled for 2005 after 2002 postponement

The successful procurement of these loans may be a sign of more collaborative projects to come between the British Museum and Iran

After cancelling its planned exhibition on Iran in 2002, the British Museum hopes to mount an exhibition in 2005 on ancient Persia with loans from Iran. It is a diplomatic coup for the British Museum, whose director, Neil MacGregor and Keeper of the Ancient Near East collection, John Curtis spent ten days in Iran to negotiate the loans. The exhibition is in keeping with the British Museum’s policy of nurturing close relations with the countries from which its collections derive, whatever the political climate.
